And mind you: Their collection ranks among the finest in the world. You must visit the museum whether you like contemporary art or not. We did not have much there but the prices seemed reasonable, in fact slightly lower than in many other places. Before leaving we rested a while in the museum café overlooking the harbor. No big loss in my opinion I may add - it did not make any sort of impression on me, probably my fault but being an average person I guess this may apply to others as well. It will be gone when you go there because it had only two or three more days to go when we were there.
There was also a special exhibition with works by Mathew Barney. In particular I found a couple of paintings by the latter which appealed to me. But having said this I must admit that what I saw did interest me and the artists displayed were in many instances names I immediately recognized such as Jefff Koons and Damien Hirst. The collection is large enough to keep you occupied for an hour or so and small enough to avoid that you feel compelled to race through it. The building sits at the very end of Aker Brygge facing the harbor. I do not know where the collection used to be, but since 2012 it is housed in a magnificent building designed by Renzo Piano, the Italian architect you will know from several other architectural landmarks such as The Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris or The Shard in London.
